China’s Capital of Electric Ride-On Cars for Kids
2017-07-22
Recently, the China Toy & Infant Products Association reevaluated the designation of the “China Children’s Car Manufacturing Base” located in Pinghu City, Zhejiang Province. At the same time, the China Toy and Infant Products Industry Association also awarded Pinghu the honorary title of “China’s Electric Ride-On Car Capital.” This recognition marks yet another significant honor for Pinghu, following its previous accolades as “China’s Famous City for Apparel Export Manufacturing” and “China’s Capital of Travel Bags.”

It is understood that children’s vehicles are one of Pinghu City’s five traditional specialties, with origins dating back to 1981. After decades of development, the industry has now diversified into more than ten major product lines—including electric ride-on toys, strollers, two-wheeled bicycles, three-wheeled bikes, and toddler walkers—offering hundreds of different models. Annual production reaches tens of millions of units, with electric ride-on toys accounting for the lion’s share. The city holds a leading position in the domestic industry, capturing around 80% of the market, and has seen the emergence of well-known brands such as “Happy,” “Beilaijia,” and “Sony.” Currently, Pinghu boasts 73 automobile manufacturing enterprises and over 150 supporting companies, covering sectors like hardware, electronics, injection molding, spraying, and packaging, thus forming a complete industrial chain. Its products are exported to more than 100 countries and regions across Europe, North America, Asia, and beyond. Last year, 18 large-scale stroller manufacturers achieved an output value of 1.45 billion yuan, with self-operated export earnings reaching 116 million yuan.
Although the output value of the children’s automotive industry is not particularly high compared to other traditional industries, Pinghu ranks first in China in both the variety and scale of its electric children’s vehicle sector. “During their inspection of the ‘China Baby Stroller Production Base,’ the China Toy & Infant Products Association awarded us the honor of ‘China’s Electric Children’s Stroller Capital.’ This recognition is the greatest affirmation of Pinghu’s stroller industry’s development over recent years,” said Qi Jinliang, Secretary-General of the Pinghu City Children’s Automotive Industry Association.
How will this impact the development of Pinghu’s children’s automobile industry—from being “China’s Base for Children’s Automobile Production” to becoming “China’s City of Electric Children’s Vehicles”? Qi Jinliang told reporters that Pinghu’s children’s vehicle industry is currently pursuing a “two-pronged” strategy, focusing simultaneously on both export and domestic sales. The title of “China’s Capital of Electric Children’s Vehicles” serves as a golden brand—a prestigious badge of honor. In the future, Pinghu’s children’s vehicle enterprises will be able to proudly introduce their products to foreign buyers during international trade negotiations, emphasizing that these products are manufactured in “China’s Capital of Electric Children’s Vehicles” and boast reliable quality. As for domestic sales, Pinghu’s status as China’s Capital of Electric Children’s Vehicles will further boost the popularity of electric children’s vehicles across China and help open up the domestic market.
When he learned that Pinghu had been awarded the honor of “China’s Capital of Electric Ride-On Toys,” Lu Zhong, General Manager of Zhejiang Dongma Ride-On Toys Co., Ltd., was especially delighted. He told reporters that the company had recently successfully listed on the New Third Board. The title of “China’s Capital of Electric Ride-On Toys” will provide a powerful boost to the company’s future development. Dongma Ride-On Toys plans to print the words “China’s Capital of Electric Ride-On Toys, Dongma Products” on the packaging of its electric ride-on toys in the future.
As a traditional specialty industry with distinctive advantages, Pinghu has in recent years invited renowned domestic economists, scholars, and industry authorities specializing in children’s vehicles to Pinghu. Through forums, lectures, and seminars, they have helped clarify the direction for the development of Pinghu’s industrial children’s vehicle sector. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, Pinghu has also incorporated the development of the children’s vehicle industry into its planning framework. So far this year, the city has supervised the production of children’s vehicle companies, with output reaching 600 million yuan—a 3% increase over the same period last year, representing a 7% growth rate. “Next, we will take ‘China Electric Children’s Vehicles’ as an opportunity to enhance the market visibility and competitiveness of Pinghu’s electric children’s vehicles,” said Qi.
